- The telephone helpline
received 645 enquiries about how we might be able
to help a bereaved adult or child. (546)
- 181 bereaved
adults and children were then referred on for one to one support
from one of our bereavement counsellors. Others received advice, information
and literature to help. Some joined our Monday group, which offers
mutual support/coffee in an understanding environment. (175)
- Of the 181 above, over
50% (104) came at the suggestion of an NHS professional
(92 via their GP – but other sources were the hospitals and
mental health staff).
- 200 clients
completed their counselling in this period. (164)
- We have 61 ‘open
cases’ at present (57 last yr) and 44 on our
waiting list. (44 last year) All those on the waiting list
have already had a one-off initial assessment meeting
where they have been able to talk about their situation face to face
with one of our experienced counsellors. 8 clients are ‘on hold’.
5 are about to have an assessment appointment and 12 more have asked
for one.
- The carers/ parents of
children requiring our services are usually contacted
by one of our children’s team within 2 days.
We had 25 referrals to the team this year.
- Following the ‘initial
meeting’ most clients are waiting about 8 weeks to be allocated
their own personal counsellor. However, if there are very difficult
circumstances we do our best to respond immediately. Time taken can
also depend upon where in the County the client lives.
- 857 sessions were given
by Cruse counsellors to clients whose cases were closed during the
year. (819) In total, 1235 one to one sessions were
given. (1016 last year & 827 the year before).
- Our volunteers gave 5067
hours of their time. (4,014)
- We have had 70
volunteers actively working for Cruse. 56 are counsellors
(including 3 specially trained to work with children). Others help
with the telephone Helpline, Monday Group, with administration in
the office, or on the Management Committee.
- On average, the attendance
at the Monday Group is between 25-30.
- We see people from our
base in Norwich and sometimes from one or two other centres in Norfolk.
We also do home visits throughout a large area of Norfolk including
the North and South of the county, Norwich and much of Breckland.
(The Gt Yarmouth & North Suffolk branches of Cruse see people
in those areas).
- Cruse has provided Outreach
work assisting other organisations who need to train any
staff or volunteers who may have to deal with bereaved people.
